"5 stars at a Truly Bargain Price for a full featured watch" 2009-12-13

This is a bargain at twice the price, but it is about $50-55. It is atomic (set by radio from the atomic clock in Ft Collins, here in the USA), and other places in Russia, Japan, Europe. (Note that Russia is deactivated by default. This saves your battery.) It can be a bit complex to set, but if you just want to set the time zone so the watch is reading the correct hour, it is simple. Wait to get help if you want to turn on 24 hour time, beeps on the hour and such advanced features, or DST.

So the watch is rated at 15 seconds a month accuracy but the atomic clock from which it derives the time is accurate to 1 second in 20 million years. It is rated as water resistant to 165 feet - 50 meters. And Casio makes a very stout watch.

Negatives other than being complex? Well it is solar/light powered (any visible light that strikes the face, charges a permanent battery). Net result, you never have to change the battery, reducing the cost of operation to replacing the seals every couple of years that maintain the water resistance. (I bet very few people do that though, without the reminder of the watch battery needing replacement. Its cheap enough to just buy a new watch when the seals fail.) But as the battery is charged, what appears to be a 3 segment display in the upper right, never moves beyond the two lines that were originally lit. (Don't know if it doesn't work, or each bar is two segments, or something else unexplained, but it doesn't seem to make a great difference.)

Thats about the worst thing about the watch, other than it doesn't have an expansion band on it. It DOES have a very long standard band on it though. It is a rather bulky watch, though there are watches considerably worse on the market.

I like it, and recommend it it to my friends all the time. I enjoy a good bargain, when I can find one.

I've had this watch for over a year and it works great. I use this watch for work, fitness, and cycling. It has many features of the larger G-Shocks at a great price. The G-Shocks were too thick to wear with dress clothes. This is a simple watch that has five alarms to remind me when to eat (I eat smaller meals) and a snooze alarm. This is a great watch for the value. The power is always high, I live in Colorado, and appreciate the atomic clock. It has duel time and a count down timer. I'd buy this watch again! I have a few watches and find myself wearing this one because it is so functional. It beats out the more expensive watches with it's nifty features.

So far everything is working as advertised. This model looks and feels a bit nicer than the cheapest Casio models due to the metal casing and overall appearance. The size is slightly smaller and thinner than the bulkier G-Shocks but it is still a fairly big watch. I like many of the features like world time, 100m water resistant, auto light ( it feels the angle of your wrist as well as ambient light ), solar power and the daily atomic reset to exact time. The tiny instruction manual explained all you need to know about the watch and it did not take a long time to read. The glass is probably not the most scratch resistant but it is lowered slightly in to the casing so that should protect it somewhat. The strap feels and looks ok but I have a feeling that it will wear out after a while. Overall I am happy with my purchase.

Just the right feature for my needs and I commend the description short and succinct description from Amazon. A feature that I found on some of the watch descriptions is the picture with a measuring grid. It allows me to picture the size; instead of taking the written measurements and approximate it with my mind's eye. Some of Casio watch listings had this feature so I used it to approximate this watch. Would be nice if all watch pictures had this feature because it can be difficult to picture the exact dimensions of a watch face that is not square.

As a Canadian buyer there were no shipping choices. It would be nice if we were offered two shipping choices, one standard ground and one express. The only choice I was offered was express shipping for $20 (which is roughly 40% the price of the watch) - good thing it arrived 2 business days later. I would not have mind paying $10 for shipping and expecting it 8-10 business days later.

Overall, with the high Canadian dollar I saved on this purchase from Amazon.com

This is the most amazing $50 watch I have ever seen. Water resistant to a level I am unlikely to ever surpass, accurate due to automatic sync with atomic clocks worldwide (5 - count 'em 5 time signal sources in the U.S. and abroad), world time / local time settings, solar powered, etc., etc., etc. I wanted a watch that had flexibility, great accuracy, ruggedness, a non-metallic watchband, and was not expensive. I wanted it for travel to Europe next year, and didn't want to have to worry about a big disaster if some gypsy kid managed to steal it from my wrist. This watch has it all, does it all. Outstanding build quality and beauty. Looks more expensive than the price that was paid. A very good alternative to those folks who cannot afford or let alone wear larger watches like Invicta etc. although I do have a few of my own and really like them also. Most difficult part was adjusting and resizing the watch band. Casio build quality is so precise that it takes a lot of skill to remove the metal pins and remove 4 links. Otherwise, took me 1/2 hour to resize the band since I have my own watchmaking tools I also purchased from Amazon. Back case cover is a screw on type which is preferable since it really keeps out moisture and is much easier to remove when replacing batteries although I think it will be about ten years before I would even consider doing so. My last Casio Edifice purchased in Las Vegas was purchased when my son was five years old. He just made 15 when the battery finally died and had to be replaced. It just doesn't get any better. Buy it. You won't regret this purchase since it is so elegantly styled and built like a tank. Highly recommended.

Analog and digital time have to be set independently and both run independently.

No winding stem, so resetting the analog when you travel is a pain.

The light is useless-- it's a white light and you cannot read the hands in the dark.

The crystal scratches easily.

I wanted to purchase this watch (BG3001-2) because I liked the deeper color blue than the BG3000 model. However I was concerned about what a previous poster wrote about the picture here being misleading. So I went to Macy's to view the watch in person.

Indeed the picture is misleading and this watch is difficult to read. This picture looks doctored, although it is the same as on the Casio official web site. In real life the LCD is white rather than the standard grey, and the numbers are silvery. You can read the numbers in bright light when you look directly at them. But otherwise you can't read the numbers very well. I tried to simulate low light conditions such as in my room at home lit by natural light by holding the watch inside a box (Macy's is very brightly lit). Sure enough I couldn't read the numbers. Although I understand that Casio was trying to be stylish by using a different LCD technology, the result is a barely readable watch. :-(

I also saw the BG3000 model, which has a more traditional grey LCD with black numbers. That's what I will purchase.

I got this for my 13-yr old daughter and she loves it because it's not as bulky looking as her first watch. She loves the bright blue color and the ghost image of the time and date. Because she has a small wrist, she likes the shorter band length which makes it more comfortable on her wrist. Overall, she just loves this watch and hardly ever takes it off, except for bathing and playing volleyball. Great for people with smaller wrists and who don't like the bulky look.

The watch is very cool looking. I love the blue color and I also love all the features that it has to offer. However, the background of the watch is white and the writing is in silver!! Why they made it silver instead of black, I don't know. The picture on amazon is misleading, it appears to be black lettering but actually it's silver. You will need to hold the watch directly in front of you to see what time it is. From the side it looks like the battery is dead because you can't see anything.

I am going to return this watch and get something else.

This is a very nice watch! I like the solar re-charge feature, the sync with the national atomic clock, the black and gold colors and the link band. It was starting to cost me over a hundred dollars just to change out the battery in my Citizen watch every other year. This watch will take care of that problem by not needing a battery change. Good. Very good! Only one problem with this watch - the dark color. It is sometimes a little hard to read the face of the watch. I figured this would happen. I bought the watch because of the black and gold. The watch has a back light - both manual and automatic - and is light sensitive to save the battery. Dark, it will light, outside day time it won't automatically turn on.

Great watch. Note that this model watch comes in several colors.

Cons :

1. The glass on the watch is slightly curved, which makes it reflect light from various sources behind you. Many watches in this price range have such a glass and I dont quite see the reason for it, as its not acting as a lens either. Minor irritant at times.

2. The watch is slightly loose on the wrist in one position of tightening and too tight in the very next ( not removing links but just using consecutive holes on the clasp ). I am a motorcycle rider and when slightly loose, the watch rides up to the end of the wrist and gets in the way of bending/twisting the wrist. This also happens while not riding, though not as often. Though a slight irritant to me, its not something that will affect everyone.

Pros :

The watch looks like its pictures, feels very solid and well made, great wrist strap, and has a nice face which is relatively uncluttered despite all the functions. Good looking hands but the smaller hands on the day / date could have been better. The rotating bezel also feels very solid and makes satisfying clicks while turning.

A very good buy for the price indeed.

This is a very nice looking watch. I needed something dressy and waterproof. This watch so far has been what I needed. I have one complaint and that is the dials on the face are hard to read and require more than a glance to get what information I need. The date for example. The hour hands also could be more distinct. The blend into the face to well for a casual glance to read. So I can't give this watch full ratings for simple issues like what the watch was made for.

This is not a fancy watch, but it is functional and looks nice. It is a good watch to wear to work every day. The information shown on the inside is not easy to read and the latch mechanism is strong, but has a gap that depending on your type of work, might get you caught on something.

I have owned the watch now for several months. So far, the clock has stopped working twice. It seems as if the hour/minute hands get stuck somehow. First time I gave it a small tap with my fingers and continued to work. Then it seems it happened again during the night, because I found the watch with a time delay the next day. Contacted the supplier and they do not provide credit, have to get the watch to an authorized dealer for evaluation/repair.

After much reviewing several g shocks online i finally setteled for this one.

I bought this watch 4 years ago and let me tell you..... it does not dissapoint.

Since i travel a lot and am often on expeditions in various climates, i needed a watch that could endure and still be a relatively accurate chronograph. This watch has it all (and no, im not getting paid for saying this ;)

Its a bit big and bulky, those are probably the only cons.

Iv had this watch while mountain climbing the alps, hiking the himalayas, running sand dunes in egypt and even diving. Its full of scratches and nicks but still works. The data page comes in handy for storing in flight numbers while travelling, and the 24 hrs stopwatch and timer are more than what other watches offer (usually only 1 hour). Although a nice feature, i havent had much use for the automatic backlight (you can set it to automatically light up when angeling the watch at a 45 degree angle). The 5 alarm concept is once again more than you'll get with other watches, you can set the alarms for daily use or set them for a future time (time, date, year). Even though dual time is pretty much standard in most watches its great having world time, since i travel often, this feature comes in handy. But my favorite thing bout this watch (except for its never dying ability) is the solar panel. I now live in a country where you get to see the sun 3-4 months a year but thats enough to charge this watch and have it going all year.

To prove my point to my wife (who's not a big fan of g-shocks):

-Iv driven over it with our suv.

-Had it in a tug of war with my dog.

-Dropped it from a hight of 6 meters while rock climbing (this was an accident).

-Tied it to a rope and sank it to the bottom of a 5 meter river for 5 days.

Needless to say, its still alive and kicking :)

At present im using this watch during my orthopedic residency, and if i dont survive the surgical residency, im sure the g-shock will.

As a finishing note, i finally got a g shock for my wife (not a baby g), and now she's a big fan of these watches. All i can say is that this is probably the best watch iv had so far.

Takes a beating and keeps on ticking.

do not waste your time and money on a casio product> mine quite after 38 days. would shut down to low battery level. i tryed every thing to get it rechareged. it would only half charge.work for about 5 to 6 hours. then back to low battery reading. called customers serv. they said mail it to them at my exspence. oh and be sure to insure it again at my exspence. it was going to cost me more money than the worthless piece of junk was worth. they then told me they would just replace it. i was thinking they would send me a new watch. wrong again, they were going to send me a referbished piece of junk. needless to say i was rather upset about it. so do your self a big faver and just skip these clowns. buy a eco-drive by citizen. they at least don't jerk you around. i hope this helps.if enough poeple stay away maybe they will biuld a better product and better customer sev.

I like this watch. Ever since I started carrying a cellphone, I fell out of the habit of wearing a wristwatch.

Recently, I have had to do a lot of flying and decided that the convenience of instant access to time (especially in-flight) was well worth the purchase price of an inexpensive watch.

I bought the watch at [large electronic retailer named after potato strips cooked in oil], thinking I was getting a different model. When I opened it at home, an unexpected wave of deja-vu hit as this watch is nearly identical to a Casio I wore many years ago, and the watch I got home wasn't on display at all. I didn't bother returning it, since pretty much any watch would suffice.

The band isn't uncomfortable, and it's metal or metal-looking, which means the watch doesn't look too much like something that came free out of a cereal box.

The display is sharp and easy to read in direct sun and under indoor lighting. The blue backlight is excellent and works great even in darkness. It has time, date, day of week, an alarm (which is too soft to wake a mouse, but could be useful as a reminder during the day), and a stopwatch. This is pretty much everything I demand of a wrist-mounted timepiece. As others have noted, one drawback is you cannot easily set the time in the dark, because the backlight function pre-empts the setting feature, so you can't see what you're doing without external light. Annoying, but doubtful it is a problem unless you're into cloak-and-dagger ops where you have to synchronize watches in the dead of night and oddly forgot a flashlight. ;)

The timekeeping on my unit is startlingly accurate.

A week ago, I set it to time dot gov. The watch ever-so-slightly lagged the NIST clock when I set it, and after a week, it still lags by the same ever-so-slight amount (perhaps 0.1 seconds, certainly no more than 1/4 second). After 7 days, I still cannot tell if it is gaining or losing time! This is unusual in my experience; most watches I've owned gained or lost about a half second per day.

No idea if Casio firmware calibrates these watches at manufacture to compensate in for the normal component variations in the crystal oscillator and associated circuitry, or if I just got very lucky and got one that just happens to be spot-on, frequency-wise. At such a low price, I'm thinking maybe it's just luck. So my experience may not reflect the experience of others with accuracy.

The biggest (and basically only) drawback I see is looks. As jewelry or a dress watch, it doesn't work. I think a step up to a Citizen eco-drive or Seiko or Pulsar or Bulova in the $30-$90 range is well worth the money where appearance is a major consideration (and some of these watches are still a good value), but for a practical watch it's an unbeatable buy. Figure the day something breaks a year or two down the road, you can feel smart that you got so much value out of a $15 investment when many people spend more than that on a new band or battery change at the jewelers'.

Happiness is unceremoniously dumping the carcass of your dead watch in the trash and ordering a new one online from Amazon. Beats shedding tears for an expensive watch you've become emotionally attached to, or driving around and then paying for an expensive repair.

The hands and the numbers are made of a steel/metallic-like material that's why they don't create too much contrast against the dark background. Telling the time in a dim room is difficult because you would have to keep the watch angled to reflect the light on the hands. If that is a problem, you might consider looking at the white version of this watch. However, I got used to it and the watch is decent looking, gives accurate time, comfortable, water resistant and doesn't have that wet feeling you get with those watches with leather straps when they get wet.

Had 1 23 years ago when they 1st came out. It was originally $80 + the outrageous sales tax of 7.25%. It lasted a few months before it was stolen in school. Now at $25, it's tempting as a collector item & as a momento of the 80's. Except for the light, the electronics are probably unchanged in 23 years.

Only know of 1 person who still wears a watch regularly & it's more of a piece of jewelry. No-one would ever store anything in it, with modern smartphones & the lack of any data communication. Maybe you could use a camera to scan the LCD & make a robot type in data.

Now if this 80's icon was upgraded with wireless communication & a programmable microcontroller, that would be something.

This is a great watch! It is tough and looks good. I have had a number of compliments on it. It will last for a long time. It has world time zones, five alarms, stop watch, hourly chime, etc. The only negatives are that the hands are hard to set (not a problem unless you travel to many different time zones as I do). Also he band will wear out before the watch (or even the battery) in my experience - but it will last for a long time (years). I received mine as a gift, but two friends had to go out and buy this watch for themselves.

I like this watch because it's a unique color and it's a digital and analog, but the light for this watch is HORRIBLE (it's yellow and not throughout the watch just on the sides). Like mentioned above, I can only hope that the watches with a white background are better lit. You really can't see the digital part of the watch if you are in darkness, but the analog is visible. The band is also a little weird, it's a little tight for my wrists and that's usually not a problem for me. Overall, the watch is okay, I will keep it because it's interesting, but I should have asked Santa for a Baby-G instead, I would have been much happier.

Pros: Both my U.S. Navy son and myself have bought and owned this watch for over six years. Never had to replace the battery. The screen is as bright as on the day we each bought ours. My son has been deployed twice to Iraq and to Afghanistan, and has seen combat duty. This watch has survived everything. When he goes swimming, he does not even bother to remove his watch. As for myself, I have dropped my watch numerous times, travelled all the over the world with it, and never had any trouble with it.

Cons: The metal wristband that my son bought the watch with did not survive past three years, but his watch is still working as accurately as on the day I bought it for him. As for myself, I wish that the sound for the alarm was loud enough to wake me up during my trips like my Timex Ironman. But then my Ironman does not work anymore, but this one still does. I take a working and accurate watch anyday over one that has a loud alarm, but cannot take rough treatment.

The combination of generous battery, alarm, world time, and data storage and the recessed night view button were the most attractive points of the G7100-1V, and the lighter colored silver case is certainly less nerdy than an all-black classic. I'm a big fan of plastic casio watches. I'm wearing a different model right now, and I alternate with this one pretty regularly. This watch has a really flat face so it's non-obtrusive. If you like thin, simple watches this one is for you.

But, feature-wise, it's super simple, though, no backlight (or glow-in-the-dark) or alarm. So it's all-the-time use is a bit limited.

I love the style of this watch. Really cute and a little retro. And it fits me perfectly... not too big and bulky but not so small that you can't use the buttons (if you have big fingers you might want to look for a different watch, or prepare to use your fingernails to hit the keys). My only complaint is that the watch doesn't display the date--instead it displays the day of the week which is not at all helpful (I know what day of the week it is!) Other than that its great! And very reasonably priced for such a sweet watch.

There is not a whole lot that can be said about this watch. The quality isn't necessarily high. It feel rather flimsy and probably not extremely durable. I have not tried the more expensive calculator watches so I can't compare the quality.Based on the picture, I thought it had a glossier finish but it is more of a matte finish. The lack of a backlight can be annoying but isn't something I really needed.

In the end, if you want a calculator watch for fun but not necessarily form & function -- this is a great price and has a neat look.

The Master of G series began with Casio's Frogman model which was introduced in 1993, however at this stage the watch was not called a Frogman, and the Master series had not yet been designated. The watch itself was a heavy divers model that featured a unique asymmetrical design of thick rubber shielding around a self-contained module, with titanium screw-back case - an unusually high-cost design. A thick double-tang resin strap and multitude of digital features including dive timing completed a competent diver's watch. The Frogman proved to be very popular, and this is presumably one of the key reasons why at some point between then and 1995 Casio decided to produce more high-end premium models, and with them limited edition colour variants that, due to their scarcity, have in some cases become very valuable indeed.

It seems that the last of the "first wave" of Masters watches ceased production around 2000, but there are signs Casio is keen to keep the range alive, not just with limited edition releases but with re-designs of some of the old Masters, such as the new Mudman models released in 2006.

Wow, I am really loving this watch. This is my first G-shock and I'm really glad I made the purchase. I was a little worried about the blue color initially, but it's not a really bright blue. The LCD is SUPER easy to read, it has a turquoise hue to it making it very bright. Even in low light it is easy to see the time without using the illumination. Very comfortable and light for it's size. The buttons are a bit hard to push, but this is a mud-resistant watch, so what do you expect? It's better than being able to push them accidentally. Really happy with it.

Bought this watch about a month ago and haven't taken it off for nothing, except showering and sleeping. Only bad thing is that it doesn't have a light. But hey, who needs to know the time in a pitch black (dark) room anyway..? Oh and the alarm isn't very loud, plus it doesn't have snooze or repeat or any fancy options, so if you need the alarm, get an alarm clock. And now I'm the calculator for friends.. hehe.. how much tip should I leave? How much tax will I have to pay? What's the exchange rate? What is 25 + 60 + 32 + 12 + 7%.. divided by 3..? I got it! The watch looks incredible, fits perfectly and everyone loves it, makes me feel like a hot geek.. sweet!! If you don't have a Casio calculator watch yet then just stop reading and get this one or the one with the light if you feel like you really need it -- in the end the light is not essential. Hope Casio never stops making this one. I've been a fan of this model since it came out in the 80's.

I have owned one of these watches for at least ten years. Before I started using a cell phone and programing phone numbers into it, this kind of watch was my phone book. I now use this watch to remember all my pin numbers and pass words. The only problem I have with this watch is not actually with the functioning of the watch, it is with the cheapness of the bands and the ears that the pins hook into. The only reason I need to replace my six year old watch was the holes the the pins insert into wore out after replacing the band for the fourth time.

I've been using this model since it first appeared, and have owned at least 5 of them. Calculator watches are no longer as common or popular as they once were, and for those that like gadgets, this one had almost everything - in particular a memory and schedule databank that stored 150 entries. They came out with several models with these features, including a silver one that looked like metal, but was in fact plastic, but this model was the most functional and durable. Unfortunately the watch will outlive the watchband, and it is now very difficult to find a replacement (I bought 2 off Ebay the last time mine broke, so that I still have a spare). Casio watches are generally disposable and after you go through 2 or 3 watchbands, one or more buttons will start to fail - particularly after a battery change (2 year life - and many jewellers won't touch Casio, but its easy to do yourself and a lot cheaper), and you'll have to hunt for another one.

Casio kept adding features to their calculator watches when they first came out. However they never seemed to successfully add to this model. It's attempted replacement, with a touch screen and memory for emails, no longer had the very useful schedule function/alarm (just a couple of different alarms with no record of their significance), and once the touch screen started malfunctioning (which isn't long) the watch was useless. Linked to an atomic clock and a universal remote were the only other variations, but again they added those features while removing useful ones that this model had.

I'd love to see Casio add a universal remote to the features of this watch. However until then, I will continue to buy this model as long as it is available. It may need replacing every 5 years or so, but I've yet to find another watch as useful. Incidentally stick to the Telememo 150, instead of the Telememo 30, the extra memory is more than worth the extra money.

"The Perfect Combination" 2010-01-31

For me, this G-Shock has the perfect combination of functions, toughness, and looks.

With the accuracy of quartz watches today, I felt no burning desire to have the atomic time setting feature--so why pay for it?!

This watch has a great countdown timer with a variety of functions including auto-repeat, warning signals for example.

It allows 5 alarms--one that has snooze. Love this feature, although it's not loud enough to wake up to.

It's a big watch, but still fits my small wrist. The whole design looks nice with a subdued brushed dark steel mixed with black plastic design.

The position of the light button is ideal because you can't accidentally set it off by bumping the watch.

The watch also has dual time that is easy to set and reset with one button press. Nice if you travel much.

The little digital dials at the top show battery strength (nice!), alarm functions and time (5 sec?) intervals look OK, but are really hard to read for the alarm and I have good eyes.

The band is flexible, very rugged and comfortable enough to wear to bed if desired.

Overall, I think this is an excellent watch and value. It's perfect for my needs, but taste plays big role when choosing a watch!

I have had this watch for 2 years now in the tropics, wearing it almost constantly, and have been really pleased. I'm always a bit skeptical about solar power gimmicks, but the watch actually lost power when worn under long sleeves (yes, we have cold weather in the tropics sometimes) and then recharged quickly when I left it in the sun!

My only complaint is that the alarm is very quiet, not good for a heavy sleeper like me, but I just use something else for an alarm. I will say that this watch keeps the best time of any watch I've ever owned, gaining maybe 3 seconds over a 2-3 month period. I like the price that has come down considerably from when I bought it. My coworker in Brazil needs a watch and I think this is the one I'm getting for him.

Bought this for my son, for two features: solar power and yacht racing timer. Casio watches offer a good value, and each model offers a slightly different combination of features aimed at specific uses. The controls are intuitive for such a full-featured watch.

It was purchased when previous Casio Pathfinder waterproofing failed after an $[...] battery replacement by Casio, but it was beyond Casio warranty, so replacement with this watch was cheaper than repair of the old Pathfinder. Hopefully this watch will last longer, since it is solar powered and should not have to be serviced for a long time. My family is "hard on watches". We have owned several Casio watches and they perform well, and are as durable as any other watches in their price range.

I did a lot of research before buying this watch. At first I was interested in 1300 and 1500 series, but after trying them on at a local store, I reilized that they were a little too big and they wouldnt be very practical for everyday use. Then I came across with this model, it basically has every feautre that 1300 series offer except the compass sensor. I really should say before puchasing this watch I was kind of dissapointed that it didnt have compass sensor, but now I dont even care at all. Because it really is a useless function if you think about it, unless you need the compass to navigate. I tried to hike few times since I got the watch and I just used the altimeter function once or twice. The altimeter function works fine but it needs to be calibrated right before a hike. Same for the temperature and barometer, they need to be calibrated for better accuracy.

This watch is a very light and slick. It takes attention and it fits on my wrist very well. No matter what you wear this watch stands out and looks good.

I should say the best feature for me is the Atomic time keeping function. It is very acurate, it matches the exact seconds with atomic clock all the time. You dont have to do anything to calibrate the watch. When the daylight saving time start this watch would set itself to right time for you.

Like the other reviewer sad, the titanium band is not very durable against the minor scratches. It is really hard to keep in the original polish. That is my only complaint, except that the watch does everything that is it listed on its description. It is almost half the price of 1300 series and it just lacks on compass feature. Thanks to amazon I paid only $115. Great product!

I bought this because it's smaller than some of the monster models. And it is big, but not so big ad the other ones. I can button my sleeve ocer it, at least!

And I like the solar power--I'd heard a lot about battery use for these kinds of watches, so I wanted to make sure that wasn't an issue. The solar power function workswell, and I haven't hasd any problems with keeping the watch charged--at least in sunny CA.

And if you understand that the altimeter works off the barometer function, you should be really happy. Yes, you should reset it when you get a chance...mine often changes 100 feet or more overnight. But that's what barometer does. And if I update regularly, this watch does a great job of telling you where and how high you are!

I bought this watch after about 1 month of internet research.

The watch I wanted had to be not bulky, with a metal band (All my plastic bands

broke within 3 years and leather bands damaged within 2, so the band had to be metal),

with real mineral glass, water-proof etc etc. For a while MOMENTUM SLK

appealed to me until I've read the glass on them can break too easily due to

it not being recessed and protected enough.

In the end I had only one model to chose from, Casio PAW500T-7V.

PROS

-Balanced looking.

-Titanium watch and band. I would rate this watch as "ultra light for the size".

If you are thinking between this and the plastic version, no need to think very long.

Even the demanding owners who hate bulky watches would likely be happy after

buying the titanium version.

[small comment: the band looks solid titanium, but it is pressed sheet titanium, folded

to look solid. For me it's not a problem.]

-It is not a small watch. On the overall watch market, its place is among medium-sized and large (!)

men watches. Casio markets it as female not because PAW500T is small, but because it is

much smaller than the grossly oversized other pathfinders.

-Internal precision of mine is outstanding. The watch came to me being 7 secondes ahead of time, with last atomic

calibration date 5 month back. About a second error per month running without atomic calibration.

Even my upper-end Oceanus watch has 10 sec/month internal error.

-Barometer, altimeter and thermometer work great after calibration.

Barometer is completely in agreement with published pressures. Correctly predicted

a hurricane two days in advance (large pressure drop). Correctly predicted clear sky for a week

(large pressure increase). The watch was correct. The [...] was not -

it said "80% chance of rain", "rain", "cloudy" and there was sun.

Some people mentioned that altimeter is too variable and insensitive.

I think this altimeter is fine. Like all altimeters, it needs to be calibrated

to current pressure. If one does not calibrate, no wonder he reads +/- 300-feet day-to-day

difference for the same location. That's how all altimeters work.

-Easy to size bracelet. No special tools needed, only a needle or a small

knife. The links are held by spring-supported retractable tiny rods. The band has arrows which point

where knife tip fits to move the rods. For me it was very easy and I am amused that

somebody wrote he had problems. Needed skill level: 1 out of 5.

CONS

Alarm sound is too soft and short. A plus is that there are 5 alarms, so one could

program them in succession.

Backlight duration is 0.5 second. Would be better if there was a user setting to adjust

backlight duration.

VERDICT

I've been wearing these watches for about 15-20 years; the watch itself seems to last forever, but eventually it's the band that finally ends up breaking after 2-3 years. My boyfriend turned me on to this watch originally; he wore one and told me that, if I ever tried one out, I'd never want to go back to an expensive/fancy watch again. I was skeptical, but he was right! I've been wearing this brand/model ever since and am thrilled that I can still find it on Amazon (Target seems to have stopped carrying them.) I think this particular Casio is better described as a "unisex" rather than strictly a "man's" watch; it has a slim, unbulky construction, classic design/styling, & an adjustable wristband to fit any normal-sized man or woman. It's well-made, sturdy, keeps accurate time, truly water-resistant, has a built-in alarm/stopwatch, and lights up at the touch of a button to allow you to check the time in the dark -- all for a price that can't be beat. You can't get a better watch for less than $15 dollars. Its small, slim and with 12 eyelets can fit any small to medium size wrist. It's a very simple, easy to use watch and the illumination function works excellent, although it doesn't "light up a room" like some reviewers claim. The watch is water resistant so it can take splashes without a problem. I shower with mine everyday and won't worry about wearing it in the pool this summer. The only improvement I could ask for is a louder alarm. I know it's not designed to wake a person up, but I still wish it could. Design-wise, well, it's nothing great. I like it, but I like nerdy things.

I used to buy the casio F-28W, remove the band, and use it as a pocket watch to protect it from the abuse it would receive on my wrist at the construction site. When I accidentally ran it through a complete wash cycle, I could not believe it was still running perfectly. Since retiring, I now use the F-105 due to it's many features ---- most notably the illuminator. No, the watch is not water resistant to 300 meters and would probably not hold up to actually diving but it is water resistant enough so that I never have to take it off ---- not when showering, bathing or even swimming. I purchased my second F-105 2-3 years ago and, just as with the first one, the band broke. Casio makes a fine watch for a remarkably cheap price but they definitely need to learn how to make a watch band -----and yes a replacement band costs nearly as much as a new watch. Since I am sure Casio knows about this problem I am disappointed that they have not addressed it. At least they should have the integrity to include some extra bands or supply them at a reasonable price ---- which certainly would not be 70% of the cost of the entire watch!

I've been using the Illuminator for at least 20 years. It's light on the wrist, tells accurate time, has a stop watch and an alarm AND as an extra benefit can be illuminated for late-night time telling in the dark. The watch's "illuminator" is so strong it casts enough light in a dark room, tent or outdoors to see your way or to identify objects. It's cheap which means no tears shed when the battery wears out after a year or so or if it's lost (as has happened from time to time). I've been buying these for friends who, like me, view a watch as a tool rather than a piece of jewelry. My only caution is if you have a really large wrist, it may not fit. But, for $13 or $14 you can always give it to your kid. Great for guys who spend a lot of time outdoors for recreation or work. Durable and can take occasional immersions in water.

This is great product. G-2900 is my first G-shock watch, so really can not compare with other G-shocks. Well, first of all I have purchased G 9000 1V from Macys, and then returned it. G 9000 is also great watch, i have returned it for only one reason and it has more sporty / outgoing look, I love that look thats why I purchased it and then suddenly realize that it wont go to much of my office-ware.

Now again back to G-2900.

Likes:

1) It has 10 yr battery life. some review says after replacing battery (opening watch) sometime it loosed its water resistance. so I thought of purchasing longer battery life.

I am using it from last 3 months ;). Lets hope battery runs atlest 6-8 yrs.

2) I can store important numbers in internal memory. I ofter forget my cell phone at home / car /gym and not good to remember phone numbers. So internal memory helps me.

3) It has 4 regular alarms, 1 SNZ (snooze) alarm & 1 SIG (my fav) alarm. good part of 4 regular alarm is it can show 3 letter description on screen. so I put sometime "gym" 7:00 pm. when alarm turn on at 7:00pm it show 3 letter only "gym" on screen.

SIG is my favorite. When it turns on it beeps twice every hour. Sometime in office you don't see time regularly. but SIG remind every hour and I can get back to my work.

4) While driving a car in night, "Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow" feature is very handy. You just need to move your hand 30-40 degree up and BackLight glows automatically.

DisLikes:

1) Backlight only turn on for 1-2 seconds, which some time annoy me. Many times in night I forget to set up alarm. And then there is no feature (or I dont know how to turn on yet) that turn on back light for longer time so I can set up alarm. Same thing happen while driving a car in night if I want to setup timer or see world time back light only glows for 1-2 second when I move my hand upwards but can not see much in that duration.

All over its great watch. I love it. I fully recommend it to buy. I bought it from kohls. So no comments on how amazon handle shipping / returning / warranty and all.

Put them on the sunlight for ten minutes and they are ready to go ))) they even charge as you walk as long as any sunlight hits the screen. In general if you are hardcore mountain climber or anything like that i would reccomend more advance series Pathfinders, other than that if you looking for cheap , reliable , good looking watch this is your choice. This can quite possibly be the best G-Shock for it's dollar worth. We are talking about a Solar-Powered model, 200 meters worth of water resistance; 30 page data-bank (Good for keeping track of those pesky phone numbers that always get lost); Your standard 24 hr countdown timer, and 24 hour stopwatch, and not to mention a world time feature. I have had experience with G-shock's in the past and the outcome of each watch purchased was always a pleasure. The one thing I like a lot about this model is that: Yes! the countdown timer can be adjustable even down to the seconds unlike most newer model G's. Also, there is an A.M. and P.M. indicator as shown by either an A or a P depending what time of day it is. If your looking for a G-Shock this is your best bet for a classic looking non-atomic, solar powered model.

I got this watch a few years ago while I was in the Marine Corps. At the time I was going through a couple watches a year. I now throw it in a box for the winter and take it out in the spring...still charged. In the summer I lead camping trips and the watch never leaves my wrist. The Baby Gs are fashionable but I only heard of them when I was researching a watch to use during workouts. It's easy to access the various functions once you get the hang of it. The instructions booklet is generic so I had to guess sometimes how to do things.

Things I like: I'm very happy about the countdown, stopwatch and date functions. The grey color is neutral and unobtrusive so I will wear this watch as my regular watch excepting dressy occasions. And the counters, day, dates, and years are great functions. I love that it's water resistant to 660 feet and shock resistant too. I'm really hard on watches so the thought this one might actually last a while thrills me to no end.

What I don't like: I wish this watch came in even more colors than it does. I didn't really find a color that I loved, loved, loved. I wish this watch came in a clear red, not a solid one or that the solid black was more readily available. So no five stars, on looks alone. The MSRP is also way too high IMO.

Overall I'm happy with the watch, and I'm glad I bought it. It replaced the Timex Ironman as my favorite workout watch because it promises to be much more water resistant, and it's much more fashionable.

I love this watch. Very cute! As the first reviewer said, the little animals that appear or adorable and add a fun touch. I have very small wrists and the watch isn't dainty by any means, but doesn't look cumbersome on my wrist. It's small enough to not be overpowering for smaller wrists but big enough it won't look microscopic on bigger wrists. I had my husband try it on to see how it would look on a bigger wrist and ofcourse he said it was too small for his taste, but it looked good. It comes in a nice case and is an awesome color that will go with alot of styles and colors.

I got this on closeout and couldn't resist for the price. It's a typical Casio piece-rugged, accurate, and well put together. There is no compass function--it just has directions printed on the non-rotating bezel. The wave function is difficult to set as you have to track down some odd information about your location. Even when I did that it seemed inaccurate. The moon function works well. The time needs to be set twice, once for the hands and once for the digitial. Some may appreciate that but since the hands only move forward, I found it to be quite a pain when stepping off a plane. It took several minutes of constant button-holding to get the hands to move forward 23 hours.

I like it because the display is clear and the whole face lights up. The metal band is solid and comfortable. It's not too heavy and not too big. I'm a fan, but there's no getting around the fact that it's a budget watch.

A great running watch that looks better, works better, and is more affordable than any comparable Timex...which doesn't even exist because Timex doesn't offer a watch with this little motion-sensor-stride-counter feature that makes this Casio such a great little jogging partner for me. Simply determine what your average stride is (a little effort to figure out but not too difficult) and input that number to the Casio (34 inches in my case)...and the watch does the rest! The watch converts your strides into miles, and seems to be amazingly accurate to me, as I estimate this to be accurate within a 10th of a mile on my typical 3-4 mile runs. It also has a lap counter, step counter, approx. calories burned, etc...all the typical features you'd expect in a good basic running watch. It also has a very clear, bright display, is attractive and sporty-looking, and the perfect "not too big/not too small" size for my somewhat smaller than average wrist. My only knock would be that the band is rather cheap (plastic clasp?), but overall a great plus-featured basic running watch for a great price.

For the price, this is a great watch. The pedometer takes a little adjusting, but once you set it, it is pretty accurate. The watch has a lot of features, some I use and some I don't. I read the smaller instruction manual and I was able to set the watch up in about 10 min. If you are using this watch for walking, I wouldn't suggest it. Happy with my purchase....5 stars.

Good watch with all basic features you want. Very good price.

On top of that, measurement of average pace, i.e. the number of steps per minute, is very useful, and I don't know why other watches don't do this.

Average pace is updated almost real-time, and just by looking at this I can tell if I'm going too slow or too fast, which helps me greatly to keep constant pace. (Before this watch, only thing I could do was to measure lap each mile or something, which sort of worked, but the thing is that the feedback was not immediate.)

This watch by the way works for my walking as far as I swing my arms.

This is about the third time I've bought this watch. The watch itself never quits. The plastic/rubber strap will crack or break first, and then the battery will finally die (after a normal life span). I found it less expensive to just buy a new watch, than to replace the battery and the strap.

It has all the functions you might need. Love the alarm and the count down timer. I use the stop watch feature for running and I wear it swimming all the time. Never a problem.

Also, it is slimmer than most sport watches. It doesn't look "clunky" even if I wear it with dressier clothes.

I've been using this watch for years. Not the same one, I've had to replace it from time to time because eventually (after 3 years or so) the strap breaks. As inexpensive as these are, I've never felt cheated, I just buy another one.

It's small, and the only one of its size that has all its features which are: an alarm feature that's easy to set, a timer that you can set very easily for 1, 3, 5, 15 and 30-minutes, it shows the day and date with the press of a side button, and it also serves as a stopwatch. Last but not least, every one I've had has kept perfect time. The battery lasts for years. Last but not least, it's waterproof. I never take it off, whether for showers or swimming. It's comfortable to wear, never hot underneath, and it doesn't press into the back of your hand when you bend it backward, because of its small size. It's a feminine version of the ultimate sports watch. If Casio ever stops making this watch, I'll be very unhappy because it's the ONLY one of its size, full-featured, that seems to be made, by anybody. When Walmart pared down their watches to offering only a few, in another brand, I hunted there and other stores for anything comparable and it just does not exist. I checked Amazon, who (bless its heart) sells it. You just can't go wrong with this little sweetheart if you want small, stylish and highly functional. The price? Pffffft. No brainer. Add this to a book or other small purchase, and it's even free shipping from Amazon. GREAT VALUE!!

Love this watch! I have about three other Baby G watches and this one is my favorite! It is versatile as it can be dressed up or down. The size is perfect in my wrist and it is flat so it does not get caught on long-sleeved shirts. The back-light is pink, which is different from my others and I love the girlie-effect! Overall... this is a great watch that fits and is exceptionally comfortable! It has many functions and comes with an easy-to-read instruction booklet to program it with. This is a great watch. I wanted something to wear at work(firefighter/paramedic) that could take some abuse, but still looked feminine. This one does it. It isn't bulky at all and still looks nice when worn with casual/formal attire. It has a lot of nice features and I have no problem reading the display. The light for night time use works great, but it isn't bright enough to use as a mini flash light like many of my previous watches...this could be good or bad :)

The only negative aspect I have found is that the silver face gets slightly scratched (I am hard on watches though). I have been using the watch just about every day or a few months and there are a lot of surface scratches on the silver face. Although, the scratches are not very noticeable to anyone not actually trying to read time from the watch.

Overall this is a great watch that isn't bulky, can take a beating, and can even be worn on a evening out.

Great product as described. Watch handles are accurate and quiet. I haven't tested the water resistance to 200m yet but taking a shower with it is no issue. My only peeve is that the fluorescent dials light up only for an hour or so, so you need extra light to view the time later during the night. I've been getting alot of compliments. Overall, great product, great value for the money and highly recommended.

Purchased watch primarily for surfing - needed something water"proof" so 200 m water resistance should do. Actually quite stylist and ended up wearing for work. Solid built and great stainless steel watchband - not the cheap kind I was expecting. The bezel works fine on mine (someone else complained about it, but mine lines up perfectly) and is easily read. Nice colors too. A bit heavy (probably could stop a bullet), but that was what I was looking for.

As for the "bad," the day and date dials look cool, but is kinda too small to be practical (or else my eyesight is going south) The 24 hour dial again, looks cool, but takes longer to try to read the dial ticks, rather that calculate it in your head. Besides, if you can tell time, you should be able to calculate the 24 hour military conversion time without too much problem.

Haven't had it long enough to tell if it keeps accurate time, but so far, no problems. Counting on my previous Casio's which were accurate and sure can take a beating. Besides, what do you want for $50.00 bucks?

Bottom line - damn happy with the watch. Aloha

There was another review on here that I was reading before I bought this watch that I am sure had some influence on my decision to purchase it. I am really glad that I did get it. The other review said something to the end that this watch is, "REALLY Attractive, Better than the pictures. So what are you waiting for?" He was right on! This watch looks great in the picture here but it is much MORE attractive than the pic. Not only that but the watch is very functional; has day, date, 12-hour Moon/Sun dial, a great custom metal band, is durable. It has a little weight to it but is not a boat anchor. It's not hydro-phobic which is a must! The only down that I found that may have been mentioned elsewhere as well is that the bezel that rotates is "slightly" off. Meaning that it does not click into place directly over the numbers as it ought to. I do not know if it is just the watch I got or common for the watch. This is mostly apparent at 12. It is not so noticeable at the other number positions. The bezel on my watches is being used to time things and is always being turned anyway so it is not a big deal but if you want to set it directly on twelve and like to leave it there eternally it may bug you if your watch does what mine does. This off-ness is slight but it is the second Casio that I own that does this. I'd buy it again in a second. Killer price on Amazon. Better than "the Bay".

I was looking for a daily watch that used the atomic clock to adjust time, as well as look good. I purchased the Casio Solar Atomic Waveceptor after reading the reviews and looking at the detailed photos.

When I received the watch, I tried to play with the controls without consulting the manual. This watch does require that the owner read the manual to understand what all of the features mean. After setting the receiver and the secondary watch time zone, I was in business! I routinely work with our office in India. The smaller second watch dial allows me to track the 11 1/2 hour time difference easily.

This watch comes with a stainless steel band with removable links. The band stays closed and opens easily to remove when needed.

I have not been placing my watch in the window ledge as the manual suggested, but it still has been synchronising with the atomic time signal.

This watch has been an excellent choice for me.

I wanted the most current technology, atomic timekeeping and solar power. I also wanted a solid stainless case that, with the solar feature, would never need to be opened to replace the battery and hence would keep its water resistence. It's not too heavy nor too big (I had three links removed, and I'm a big guy so the band is large enough). It is to-the-second accurate according to my atomic wall clocks and gets a signal update about every other night here in central Virginia. I put it on a bookcase next to my bed, don't need to stick it in a windowledge. This watch is a bit hard to read in bright light. The dial and numerals are polished and put off a lot of glare, but I have unconsciously learned not to look at it straight on, but from a slight angle and that solves the problem. I'm pleased with the quality and accuracy, and it wasn't as complex as I feared. Good, quality product. Dick Poole

This watch looks good, but it has a couple of big issues. One is that you have to zero all the hands so the time is correct. That would not be a problem if it stayed that way, but somehow the watch has twice in three months set the date back by one day. The second hand has also gotten off by a little, so even though you are synched to the atomic clock you have the wrong time and date. Other quibbles are smaller, like not always being able to get an atomic signal, the alarm only sounding for 10 seconds, and the dual time is too easy to change.

I really like the fact that it's got a lot of functions, the only real problem I had with it is if you're trying to do anything with it in the dark the backlight doesn't work when you push another button. This makes setting my alarm in my dark room at night impossible. The only other thing I didn't like was that I have it on 24 hour time, but if I press just one button accidentally, it goes to 12 hour time, throwing me off a little bit. Other than that it's a great watch, the features are really nice and I love the color.

Watch is almost too light. The digital window is only for those who can see well. I got tires of the buttons for setting the time and not a stem. If you use a cell phone to text and not to talk this watch may be fine for you. For the older user it may become a bother to use and reset. Others will speak of the plastic screen that scratches easily, but that won't be a problem for most. I jest got tired of keeping up with the manuels and the buttons to set time.

I have been using inexpensive Casio digitals for some twenty years now. I am a retired airline pilot and have always liked their multiple alarms, 24 hour clock, date readout and decent enough accuracy. This watch has the features I look for, with a bonus of the data storage and analog readout. I have only had this watch for five days and so far I like it.

However, this is my second watch from this order. The first arrived in apparently good condition.....I read all the directions and set it up and it worked fine......for just four hours that is. Then it stopped and everything went blank. No combination of buttons could revive it. On a good note.....Amazon sent me a replacement that arrived just two days later, along with the shipping label to return the old one. So far, the new watch is working as expected. There are minor shortcomings however.

The light that illuminates the dial is almost useless. You can see the glow of the analog hands, but that is the only thing visible.....with or without the light for that matter. If you want to read the watch at night, you will have to turn on a light, unless the glow from the analog hands is enough for you. The other visibility problem is reading the digital display....even with decent lighting. The digital display is viewable through a cutout in the analog face plate, and is small to begin with. The problem is that the cutout is not large enough, and the upper portion of the digital data is partially obscured at certain viewing angles. Sometimes the obscuration is worsened because the face plate casts a shadow over part of the digital readout. This problem is tempered by the fact that you still have the analog display as primary. Still, a minor nuisance.

Another minor problem is the alarm volume. This has been a tendency of Casio for the last few years. I used to have a Telememo Data Bank that I used as my primary alarm. It would wake me up from a dead sleep over 90% of the time. The newer alarms wake me up less than 30% of the time. Again, a minor problem unless this watch is your primary alarm clock.

The last point is about the ten year battery included. I have read that the ten year battery will only last ten years if you don't use the light or the alarm. Every time you use either, it reduces the life of the battery. My previous ten year battery barely lasted three years.

All in all, I still like this watch......so far. I wish the backlight, visibility and alarm volume were better, but then it would be an almost perfect watch. Still a good buy for $22.

The Casio AW81D-2AV is a reasonably good looking watch. Unfortunately, it is very hard to read in the dark (the light does a poor job of illuminating the hands, digits, and digital display). The band looks good, has a helpful locking spring-clamp on the clasp, and can be adjusted. The worst aspect is the complex and clunky procedures required to access and use its many settings, and to adjust the hands, which do not automatically change to conform with the digital time. I don't see how one would ever find the "phone book" memo feature useful. Don't throw away the manual as you will surely need it. The watch does seem to keep accurate time, and I have had it under water a few times with no evidence of leaking.

I've always liked Casio watches; after going through 2 other cheaper ones of which the resin bands broke I decided to move up to a Baby-G. I had been looking at the Baby-G's for years, however, the faces seemed way to large for my VERY small wrists. For those eyesight challenged like myself you might want to purchase one with larger numbers/lettering; it's a bit hard to see as they're greyish? on a black background. The instructions were easy to follow, however, I could not set my city time zone to the correct time; no big deal as it isn't necessary? The brushed steel face surround looks nice & helps protect surface. I'm happy with my purchase & I'm looking for another one in a different color!

I have had this for a few weeks now. I wanted something I could wear while out with my two young children, particularly at the beach and not have to worry about it. I also wanted something without a battery, both for the environment and for convenience. This watch fits the bill. I NEVER worry about having it on...no matter what I am doing. This is my first digital sport watch so it is a bit counterintuitive for me to set and I don't need all the features, nor do I know how to work them - the guide is very good, I just have no interest beside the time, the water-resistance and the shock-proofness.

The only downside for me is that it needs to be in bright light regularly to re-charge. With my analog watches, I pull the little stem and it stops the watch. Since this is a spring/summer watch for me, this means that I have to leave it out of storage ( not in a drawer or box ) for the rechargeable battery to stay functional. My solution to this is to keep it on my night stand directly under my reading lamp, where it gets a bit of bright light every night. It will be left there for the entire Fall/Winter. I originally disliked this alternative but the watch is so useful to me that I will live with it.

Have had good luck with all 3 Casio watches I own; they last a long time and work well. My only gripe with this watch is that when using the time display, the day and date display at the top of the window is kinda small and difficult to read.

The face and overall size of the watch are a bit larger than normal, but that's what I wanted. It does look a little off-balance because there are three metal side buttons that protrude, but the 4th one (at the 10 o'clock position) does not.

Update on 1/2010 - the battery died already. I think I've only owned this watch for 1 and 1/2 years. On all of the previous Casio watches I've owned the watch died before the battery. Maybe the watch broke? I'll have to try a new battery and see if that fixes it. I have not abused this watch or submerged it so this failure is unexpected. For this reason, I'v downgraded my rating from 4 to 2 stars.

This watch is not flashy. It does its job, and well at that. It keeps time without the glitter of "nice watches." I put it on when I got it, and have since not removed it much. I play soccer in it, sleep in it, shower in it, swim in it, run in it, work in it. It is strikingly weightless on your wrist. Very comfortable as well. It has not disappointed. I have several other watches which I love to look at and keep those for special occasions. Don't expect strangers to complement this piece. Its just not that eye candy. However, after about a year or so, the plastic ring around the face became unglued and fell off. Because this didn't really affect the function of the watch (I wasn't taking it underwater), I kept wearing it until some months later, the piece connecting the watch to the band broke. It was a disappointment in comparison to previous Casio watches I owned, but for $20, I guess a 2-3 year lifetime is what you get these days.

Casio's Waveceptors are pretty neat, eliminate any time adjustments after initial set up, and give you plenty of bang for the buck. Just don't lose the book. Once you've gone through the fairly confusing setup, you'll need it again after a battery change, or if you move to another time zone. This is my second one. They both work great and I've replaced a battery in the older one after about 16 months. Love 'em. Used to be a Seiko fan.

In addition to being able to display two timezones (e.g. local time and GMT) on the face, this watch automatically adjusts itself to remain accurate. For my line of work, having an accurate timepiece is vital, so I have been very pleased with this watch. Also, for what it's worth I received my last Casio watch as a gift in 1989 and I still wear it regularly! The only reasons I bought this new one were the fact that the hourly chime on my old Casio stopped working (but it's 21 years old!) and I wanted a watch with a dressier look. Hairy guys take note: The band on this watch tends to grab the hair on my wrist...it's occasionally annoying.

This is a very nice watch for folks who need to live in multiple timezones or who simply have trouble setting the time. While other reviewers mention that the watch is difficult to set, I didn't find that to be the case. Once you choose your home city, the watch is pretty much automatic. It's when you get into the many different features and functions of the watch that things get confusing. But if, like myself, all you are going to use the watch for is to change timezones and set the snooze alarm, you'll quickly get the hang of it.

Another reviewer mentioned that this is a large watch and they are correct. I have a small wrist and the watch face essentially covers my entire wrist. It's also a rather thick watch, but no more thick than a big Omega or Breitling. Finally, I purchased a watch link remover as I knew I'd need to adjust the watch. Save your money as the links are not your standard watch link. However, using a small screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers, I was very quickly and easily able to take links out of the watch and size it for my (small) wrist.

For the price, this is a great watch!

I bought this watch for my wife's birthday last summer, and it arrived quickly and took a bit of doing to set up (you just have to read the manual closely). Once it was set up, it worked great and has continued to work well ever since (over 6 months now). Because it is a solar watch (even though you'd never know it because you can't see the solar panel on the face at all) and because it is an atomic watch, it essentially takes care of itself. You just have to put it somewhere at night where it can get the radio signal from Colorado. It needs to go near a window with the face pointing up. My wife is not particularly careful about this, and yet it still gets the signal often enough to remain very accurate. The solar battery remains fully charged easily without extraordinary measures. The watch is small enough to be "acceptable" as a fashion item for a woman to wear. My wife did get a narrower band; but the original was actually OK looking and is very well made, so we kept it as a backup. Overall, a first-rate watch. This watch is beautiful and while it is not small it certainly is the smallest woman's atomic watch I've seen. I've had the Casio woman's atomic G-shock with the pink face for over two years now and it has been well worth the $250 spent. I don't anticipate any problems with this one either. I did take me a while to understand how to get the hands calibrated properly, but it works great now.

It is a present for my mom's 75 birthday. All she has wanted for years is good looking atomic watch. I think she will love it. I bet she will probably order the black face one when she sees it also.

"Really good and 'smart' watch" 2010-04-05

Got it a week ago and still enjoy playing with it. Note to first-time users of advanced watches: you absolutely have to read the manual to make good use of this watch! Experienced users will guess how to get to the most important functions, but will still have to read the manual for fine-tuning of some features. Here are some comments:

Looks: The watch is big, but not overwhelming as some older Pathfinders. I especially enjoy reduced thickness. Buttons seem to be of better quality than older models, but of course longer testing is required to prove this statement. Titanium bracelet is very light, yet strong, with reliable, secure clasp. Yes, the shade of the bracelet is different (metallic) when compared to plastic gray shade of the case, but it does not bother me at all. Some of the reviewers that complained about it definitely mistook this Pathfinder for a dress watch.

Display: Big and very well arranged. Small time reading is displayed at the bottom of the screen in majority of special modes - very useful feature. The top layer with radial lines is used not only for compass readings, but also as an indicator in other modes: especially creative use is the simultaneous display of sunrise, sunset and current time. Backlight is pleasant green, uniform and bright enough. Auto-EL feature that turns on the backlight in the dark when you position the watch at certain angle is very convenient, but maybe a little bit too sensitive.

Accuracy: Perfection! Since the case is plastic, atomic time reception is very easy, even in difficult conditions when metal-encased watches may have problems. The ability to sync in China in addition to US, Europe and Japan makes this watch ideal companion for any World Traveler (current or future).

Compass mode: accurate if you enter correction for magnetic declination. In the US alone the difference between magnetic and geographical North varies between +17 and -17 degrees! The simplest idea is to go to [...] and check your home or travel city value, then enter it into your watch.

Baro mode: Readings seem accurate, but I do not have really good reference to test it. Quick warning: this watch measures real air pressure, but what you see on weather forecasts is Medium Sea Level Pressure (real pressure normalized to sea level). If you live at high altitudes, your Pathfinder and Weather Station readings will differ naturally.

Alti mode: Most misunderstood feature! Your watch uses air pressure and temperature to measure altitude difference between two points. Calibrate it to your home or office or other favorite spot altitude to get pretty good readings. Passing weather systems and rapid temperature changes will give you false readings, so calibrate frequently. Preferred method of getting altitude of any place is to use Google Earth or Bing Maps 3D: zoom in, point to the exact spot with your mouse, and read complete geographical data at the bottom of the screen.

Really good buy for any adventurer and/or watch aficionado!

I can't comment on the watch, but I want to warn you about the band. The Titanium band dose not match the watch!!! It is (silverish) looking, while the watch is black and grayish. I spent the extra money on the band based on the reviews I read hear. I think it make the watch look cheep, like I broke the band and had to buy a cheep replacement band. I am going to replace the band as soon as possible. Another problem with the band is when you make it shorter for a good fit on the wrist its very hard to get the watch over the hand. Don't be fooled by the picture of the watch and band, the difference in color is very distinguishable. As for the watch, I've haven't had the time to calibrate it yet, so I can't fairly evaluate. The one star is for the band, because it doesn't match and problems after adjustments. Its a shame Casio didn't match the band and watch color. It really lowers my opinion of the watch and the company.

The watch lived up to my expectations ! Works perfectly, - I especially like that the solar cell charges the battery. Temperature sensor is accurate under cold conditions only if you take your watch off momentarily for a few minutes as the heat from your arm effects the measurement.

I bought a Casio PAW2000T-7V two weeks ago from Amazon. It arrived just in time. As other review notes, just the band is titanium, the case is plastic, but it's looks nice even dressing with long sleeve and suit. The barometer has been very helpful in interpreting weather changes. I am surprised how easy is for the atomic time keeping to synchronize every night at 00:04 Mexico time. I live at the northern part of Mexico, but even at 600 km south from the border with Texas, the watch keeps synchronizing accurately every night. I don't even have to put it in the window, as the manual suggests.

As an amateur photographer, the sunrise and sunset data let me get ready for the most beautiful light available each day. In general I'm very pleased with this pathfinder. The only upgrade I will ask in it is the inclusion of moon phase indicator.

I've had it about a month and I'm very happy with it. The altitude/barometer sensor is accurate provided you give it a good initial reference, which I always do when climbing/hiking. I've read some complaints that the altitude is not accurate. But one should try to understand that outside air pressure can change with altitude and/or temperature. Cold air is more dense and pushes on the sensor harder than warm air. So if a cold front rolls in while I am on my climb, the altitude is going to read a bit lower than actual (as if I was further down in more dense air). Likewise, a warm front will cause the sensor to read a bit higher. Either of these situations is often obvious as you will feel & see a change in the weather around you. ALL pressure-based altitude sensors have this vulnerability. That's why pilots constantly adjust their altimeters based on local sea-level barometric pressure data along their path. The best thing you can do is set an initial reference before you climb and be advised of local forecasts. Just common sense stuff really. The compass is plenty accurate enough for routine navigation, and a good backup to the GPS in the canyons and back-country.

I've read other reviews about the alarm not being very loud on some pathfinders. This one seems quite loud - haven't slept through it yet and I use it every day. All the features are very easy to figure out - never had to crack open the manual (but I did anyways). It syncs up every night with the atomic clock, no problem (Houston, TX). Based on the specs, I thought it was going to look monstrous on my wrist but it doesn't. Looks really good to me. I did have to pull out several links to get the right fit (more on this below).

The watch is very light! for it's size. The band is a nice satin gray titanium with an effective locking mechanism on the clasp. Very comfortable, doesn't pull hairs, etc. PLEASE NOTE that even though the product specifications above state that the "case material" is titanium, it isn't. There seems to be quite a bit of misleading internet info regarding the case material. To me, the case appears to be an assembly of stainless steel (back), mystery metal (black knurled ring around the face - maybe aluminum) and plastic/resin (all the gray-ish part). I have to admit that, based on the description, I thought all the gray-ish stuff would be titanium. A little disappointment there but not much. Actually the case still looks new, it's the satin finish on the titanium band that scratches/scuffs quite easily. Some will probably cry about this. I am of a practical sort and this to me is a tool. I actually enjoy the battered, well-used look of my adventure gear. I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this watch to others. Ordered it from Amazon one afternoon, had it the next morning with free overnight shipping. Practically instant gratification.

TITANIUM BAND ADJUSTMENT:

I'm adding this because it took a while searching goog to find out how to do this. Basically you need a pair of needle nose pliers and one of those larger paper clips. Using the paper clip held by pliers, you push the pin on the link IN about 1/8" in the direction indicated by the arrow on the inside of the band. Then grab the pin with the pliers where it's sticking out on the other side and pull it out with a steady action. Do this over a cookie sheet or something with edges. This is important!!! - There is a tiny metal tube that sits inside the hole in the smaller (male) side of the link. Do not lose this - it acts as the locking mechanism to hold that pin in place. To re-assemble - replace the tube in the hole if it fell out, align the links and push the pin back through in the direction of the arrow. Good idea to use the paper clip and pliers to counter sink the pin a bit so that it's equal on both ends. This should all make sense when you have it in front of you. This procedure may sound intimidating but it's really pretty easy. Just be thankful you heard about that tiny metal tube beforehand.

I've had several Databanks over 20-odd years. I find the letters hard to see.

I took my watch off on a visit to the beach in Florida where I was visiting my Mom. When I got home from the beach I noticed that I didn't have my watch. A day or two later a man phoned wondering if I had lost my watch. He had found it and while fiddling with the buttons - up popped a phone listing for "Mom" in the same Area Code as his (where my Mom lived). All my other numbers were for a different Area Code. He figured out that the watch's owner had likely lost it while at the beach nears the mother's house. So he called the number and I got my watch back.

I have been using this product (Casio wrist watch ) for almost 20 years with the only problem is the plastic wrist band that becomes brittle with age and cannot find a replacement for it. The battery last longer than the wrist band. I found that I'd rather buy (i.e. more convienent) a new replacement watch than try to replace the wrist band. This watch is very convinent to use specially for travelers that travel through many time zones.
